Sarth 1D, Noblegarden and more

Posted in General with tags , , , , on April 27, 2009 by rocklawthepally

Last night, we one-shot Kel’Thuzad for our guild 2nd kill on 25-man and proceeded to do Sartharion with 1 drake up.  That took a few tries, but we eventually got it.  Then we went over to Coldarra for some work on 25-man Malygos.  We’re at the point where we get to phase 3 consistently.  Now it’s a question of getting comfortable with the vehicle phase, which is by no means an easy feat.

I’ve also begun the Noblegarden stuff.  Man, can you say crowded?  Each of the 4 starter towns are madly camped, making egg collecting a royal pain in the ass.  I have a few of the achievements so far and thankfully have some time over the next few days to complete the meta-achievement.  Hopefully, Blizzard’s RNG will be kinder to me than it has been on my quest for the turtle mount.  3500+ catches thus far and still no luck.

More Ulduar Goodness and Fishing Ahoy

Went back into Ulduar last night and were able to clear to Ignis and get in a few attempts on him.  Also gave Razorscale a few tries.  What was clear to me was that while most of our raid was Ulduar-ready, our tanks were not.  We did not have our 25-man Naxx-geared tanks with us and as a result, we lacked in gear.  It is quite evident that in order to do well in Ulduar, even the 10-man version, you pretty much need to be done with Naxxramas in terms of gear.

On my quest for the turtle mount, I’ve caught over 1500 glacial salmon with no luck thus far.  El’s Anglin’ don’t have drop rate numbers yet, but it seems like this could take a while.

The Holy Hell of Trash

Posted in General with tags , , on April 17, 2009 by rocklawthepally

We took a ten man group into Ulduar last night for fun and giggles. The Flame Leviathan wasn’t too bad – got him on the 2nd attempt. I was worried the vehicle combat would suck like it does in Heroic Occulus and Malygos. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that being a gunner on one of the siege engines was actually quite a bit of fun. And having the trash not respawn was also a great relief.

However, what followed on the way to Ignis was not nearly as fun. The trash is most definitely a step up from what we’ve seen. The two big Molten Core firelord looking dudes on the way to Ignis’ room wiped us a bunch of times until we figured out that we could line-of-sight them to avoid the stuns. Then the flame remnant guys who spit out the tornadoes had their way with us, too. We never did get a crack at Ignis as our raid night came to a close.

Ah well. We’re gonna take it on in 25-man starting in a couple of weeks, but until then, we’re going to push on with our little 10-man group to learn the instance as best we can.

Instance Servers FTL!

Posted in General with tags , , on April 16, 2009 by rocklawthepally

Naxx was on the schedule last night and things began smoothly around 7:30 server time on Malfurion. I got my raid invite and popped into the instance. No problem.

Generally, I log into vent but don’t put on the headset until close to pull time. Since I run vent on a different machine, I leave the vent window visible when not on the headset so I can see the level of vent chatter via the flickering speaker icons. I was noticing quite a lot of it, coupled with folks logging off and not returning on their mains.

Queue the headset. I got in on the tail end of a conversation that indicated that the raid night was likely buggered due to the fact that people could not log off without alt-F4 and getting stuck at the loading screen trying to get back in. I tried it myself and, yep, the instance server was hosed. End of raid night.

So I went off to my warlock and did my 3rd set of opening quests for the Argent Tournament. Daily cash ftw.

The Argent Tournament and Fishing Dailies

Posted in General with tags , on April 15, 2009 by rocklawthepally

I began the Argent Tournament this morning on both the pally and the mage. Thus far, it’s fairly interesting and does not look to be too monotonous. What I found entertaining was the little quest chain involving the Black Knight that takes you to Westfall and a few other places. There was a slightly Monty Python-esque feel to it, with a bit of a sinister bent.  It kind of ends abruptly, tho. Perhaps there will be more as the Argent Tournament event grows with future patches.

I began by grabbing a lance and mounting a horse just outside the Alliance base. You are asked to go learn about mounted combat, including ranged, charging and melee. You practice this combat on training dummies elsewhere at the AT site. Pretty simple, but some of the charge attempts didn’t register. You need to collect 15 Aspirant’s Sigils in order to proceed to the next stage of the tournament, the Valiant Stage. I was able to get 5 of the sigils from the 3 dailies I did, so that says 3 days of dailies to me.

Another of the dailies has you go off and fight Scourge in Icecrown – just whack 8 of them and you’re golden. Also, you are sent to Crystalsong to collect lumber and then to Storm Peaks to collect rocks, presumably to help with the building of the Tournament site itself.

I can see the lumber and stone quests getting old quickly, but I’m eager to move on to the Valiant stage. I’m upping some reps as I go, including Argent Crusade. Not concerned with City reps since I’m exalted with all of them on my main.

All in all, a nice new diversion.

Also included are new fishing dailies, of which I have now done 2. It will take a little while to see what, if any benefit, these bring. What I am really looking forward to is fishing up the new turtle mount. I’ll keep you posted on that.

Will 3.1 Break My Raid?

Posted in General with tags , , , on April 14, 2009 by rocklawthepally

3.1 has come down so I guess I know what I’ll be doing tonight, and it isn’t raiding. We had a regular Naxx 25 run scheduled, but we all know how painful patch days can be. We’ll be re-speccing (and dual-speccing, in some cases), getting our mods updated, etc. And that’s AFTER we get the patch installed.

Will this affect my raid week after today?  Maybe.  Some may be itching to get into Ulduar, whether we’re quite ready for it or not.  Last night, we wiped repeatedly on KT, due to a number of factors, primarily people not doing what they were supposed to be doing.

I suspect 3.1 will be cause for a few bumpy days.  I’d prefer to take the rest of the week off from raiding just to let the dust settle, and also to get in on the Argent Tournament action :)

Naxx Clear! And a 3rd 80

Posted in General with tags , , , , on April 6, 2009 by rocklawthepally

We waltzed into a 4-wing clear Naxx last night and wiped once on Sapph and then, after a little rewiring of some folks’ perception of the fight, proceeded to kick her ass. We then one-shot Kel’Thuzad for our first-ever guild clear of Naxxramas! Woot!  The sword dropped, and some pug got it :(

To start off the evening, we did the 20-man Sartharion achievement, which went surprisingly smoothly. I wound up with my gloves finally. Profitable week. Leggings and gloves, along with a trinket.  Check me out here.

Once all that was done (which didn’t take all that long), I finished out the final half-bubble on my warlock and dinged my 3rd level 80 :) Locks are almost as OP as holy pallies in solo pve and can handle most of the group quests just as easily.  They kill a lot quicker, tho.  I have all of Storm Peaks and Icecrown left so lots of coin still to flow in :)
