Nice rings.

Marrowgar deaded again.

No attempts on Lady Deathwhisper this week (sad pally).

Good work, folks!

Champeen of the whatever

So I finally got around to finishing off the last couple heroics I needed for the Champion of the Frozen Waste title. For most folks, I’m sure it’s a Malygos kill (which I’ve done a few times now on both 25 and 10), but for me, it came down to Occulus. Once that was done, all that remained was AN and OK, which I’m thankful to say a few guldies helped out with last evening. Thanks, folks.

Lord Marrowgar down

Posted in General with tags , , , , on December 23, 2009 by rocklawthepally

Lord Marrowgar is dead as of last week.  Sadly, it was after his nerfs.  I’m firmly of the belief we would have had him on his original mode, but what the hey.  We’ll take it.  Subsequently, we got Lady Deathwhisper to 25% of her mana last week in phase 1, as well.

Seems the powers that be decided we’ve suspended raiding for the next two weeks due to the holidays.  Thankfully, one of our tanks stepped up and posted an impromptu run for ICC 10 tomorrow night.  It’s listed as a rep farming run, which I hate.  Kill the boss or get the fuck out of the instance.  For me, rep is ancillary in an instance that represents progression.  True, it’s been a long while since we’ve seen a new rep associated with a new raid, but for chrissakes, that new ring ain’t gonna make or break the raid.

So.  Tomorrow, if we have the right peeps, we kill Marrowgar and Deathwhisper and then go strap on our rocket packs!  If not, then I go farm herbs.  Here’s hoping we have 10 of our best :)

Merry Christmas to all.

Icecrown Citadel and the most annoying heroic in the game

Posted in General with tags , , , on December 11, 2009 by rocklawthepally

We ventured into Icecrown Citadel 10 normal tonight and within a couple of hours worth of attempts, Marrowgar was down to 25%.  I suspect when next we take him on, we will get him.  It’s a sutiational awareness, chaoitic fight where the healers can only do so much.  Our DPS bretheren (and us healers, too) need to help out the healing crew by avoiding the major damage from the coldflame and being as close to max as possible during whirlwind.  Well done for our first set of attemps.

Then, just to prove that we’re not total suck, we 1-shot Ony in textbook fashion.  I love face-wiping on progression, and ICC trash respawn with 30 minutes to go in our raid clock made Ony make a lot of sense.  Glad we were able to teach the old girl a lesson

What did I do next?  I did something I rarely, if ever, do.  I went into the new LFG tool with my best tank and my healing buddy (and GM) who went elemental.  We went PuG.  Rocklaw does not PuG as a rule, but this new tool intrigued me and I’m getting badge hungry.  For me, it was the daily random.  What did we get?  You guessed it – Occulus.

Thankfully we completed it.  It was one of the last 3 I need for Champion of the Frozen Wastes title.  Only Old Kingdom and Azjol.Nerub left.

We’ve got some new recruits and an old friend back in the guild.  A resto druid friend who is the significant other of a warlock recent returnee has joined us again.  Old friends from times past rejoining us are what makes this game so much fun for me.  In addition, I was able to blow a couple of cloth cooldowns for another recent returnee who has access to a killer pattern.  Was happy to help.

3.3 is starting out well.  Looking forward to getting deeper into it with my friends in guild.

Correction to my previous post

Perhaps I was a tad harsh. Just frustrated. I’m the healing lead and should just suck it up and go.  So disregard the nastier bits in my previous post (I’ve crossed them out, but have not deleted them).  Apologies if I pissed anyone off.

Confusion reigns

So my guild can’t figure out if it wants to do 25s (for which we still need to still pug in a couple) or 10s.  When we do 25s, we’re at the Ulduar level.  This past week, we actually got some guild firsts, which was cool.

On raid night 2, we went to Ony/Voa (10 man) and got them both down, but had we taken our best, we’d have done ToC 10 as well.  We took some new folk and did well in gearing them up.

My take on all of this is quite selfish:  if it is not gonna benefit me (or the raid in some major way), find someone else.  The problem is that we have so few healers and I do not want to be the asshole., so I show up.

Figgy or Shama, if you’re reading this, we should not be leaving ToC 10 on the table.  We should be running that every week.  If we have to bring in new folks, limit it to one or two.  Let’s just say screw you and get it done.  It’s that important that our best keep getting gear, IMO.  We should just suck it up and take our best for that, every week without fail.  I get very angry when we leave it by the wayside in favor of lesser instances.

219/232 gear will be avail from the 5-mans in Icecrown.  Ulduar is only cool from a progression perspective.  I like that we worked on Hodir tonight and would like to do more progression, but please do not ask me to run the early bosses on either 10 or 25 unless we are doing progression.  I’m getting tired of it.  I may change my mind come 3.3, but I may also reconsider Naxx for the same reason.

Sceptre of the Shifting Sands? Check.

Posted in General with tags , , on December 2, 2009 by rocklawthepally

So besides being broke from buying elementium ore, I’m finally done with the Sceptre of the Shifting Sands quest. Very anticlimactic ending compared to its original incarnation, which caused the AQ gates to open. You can’t even bang the gong in Silithus with the thing. But at least it’s done. Very long and satisfying. Most of it soloable (although not Dr. Weavil). The satisfaction of being able to enable pretty much the only server-wide emote in the game (Eranikus’ event in Moonglade). Just good fun, especially having to go back and smash the crap out of BWL and MC, etc. Oh, and the only epic cooking recipe in the game :)

Highly recommended that you grab the Broodlord’s head when next you’re in BWL. Good fun.  Happy bug whacking – you’ll be at it for a while, unless you have multiple AQ40 runs under your belt already.
